Happy Trails

Trails Now is a group of local trail supporters who work cooperatively with the city and county on behalf of the El Dorado Trail. We advocate, publicize and strategize on behalf of the trail.

Mission Statement

Trails Now is a non-profit citizen-based organization dedicated to the planning, acquisition, construction and maintenance of the El Dorado Trail, a multi-purpose trail envisioned to reach from the Sacramento County line to Lake Tahoe. We inform and educate the public and government agencies regarding trail issues. Trails Now generates and demonstrates evidence of community support for the El Dorado Trail. We work collaboratively with local, state, and federal agencies, as well as other citizen groups and committees, to accomplish our mission of creating, maintaining and supporting the El Dorado Trail.

Vision Statement

Trails Now envisions the El Dorado Trail as a county-wide trail, utilizing the Southern Pacific railroad right-of-way, Michigan-California railroad right-of-way, historic trails and alternative routes. The El Dorado Trail connects to adjacent regional and national trails. Pedestrians, bicyclists and equestrians of all ages share the trail for recreational, social and health benefits. The El Dorado Trail is the backbone of a trail system which provides alternative transportation and healthy recreation for present and future generations and develops into an asset to our community, county and region. Residents and visitors alike enjoy a trail that captures the natural history and beauty of El Dorado County.

We are pleased to announce that this Trails Now website, www.TrailsNow.org, has been given a merit award by the 22nd California Trails & Greenways Conference. See a copy of the award HERE.
